Free stuff...

Our students test their own learning every week by playing Kahoot quizzes made by their teachers. This way they can see what they know as well as what they still need to learn in each topic.

These free Kahoot quizzes are similar to the Kahoot quizzes our students use to test themselves. We hope visiting home schoolers will have fun with them.

The PARENTS’ QUIZ is here for parents to learn about Kahoots – by doing a Kahoot!

Kahoots can be opened on any device without the need to log in. But we suggest home-schoolers do them on a phone or tablet so they can use the Kahoot app’s extra features.

Our free Kahoot quizzes cover the terminology and content of the Australian School Curriculum for Year 7 and Year 8. (Please note that Kahoot has many other quizzes on their website, and – while these may be useful – many will not be in line with the Australian curriculum and occasionally will use different terminology or cover different outcomes.)

We hope you enjoy these free Kahoots – be careful they can be addictive!

Test your Science knowledge with this month's free Kahoot quizzes

Year 7 Topic: Forces

Year 8 Topic: Cells

1. Learners can access “Free Stuff” on any device. (Mobile phones are the best!)

2. Choose and click on any of the Year Topics. (You can try them all, if you want to!)

3. On a mobile phone click the blue button to open the Kahoot App – is gives more Kahoot features, like allowing practice attempts at questions. (Always rewarding!)

4. On a desktop computer, Karhoot works perfectly well, but without the features built into the phone app. (Oh well…)

Kahoot is an educational quiz platform which is very popular in schools across the world. In classrooms the questions are projected onto the smart board and students use individual devices to answer the timed questions. In the end the ‘podium is displayed with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters.

We write our own Kahoot questions so that they align with the Australian Curriculum outcomes. We offer these as freebies on our website and post new quizzes every month. Students do not use their real names (there is a name generator from which a name is chosen).

Our free monthly quizzes may be useful to Home-schoolers before starting a topic (to assess what their kids know already) or after a topic (to test what they remember). They can be useful for revision of a topic from a previous year or simply as a learning tool (students can do the quiz as many times as they like). Kahoot reports can be kept as a record of achievement for each Science topic.

Over the course of the year, we plan to make Kahoot quizzes to cover all the Science content for Year 7 and year 8. However, the course content, the factual information, is only part of learning Science. It is important that students also do investigations to explore the theories and ideas presented in the course content. A big part of Science is questioning, forming hypotheses, designing investigations, gathering firsthand data, analysing the data and drawing conclusions. We hope that by providing a summary of the course content, through these quizzes, students will be fascinated and inspired to delve more deeply into areas that interest them.

The March topics are

Year 7 – Forces

Year 8 – Cells
